Nigel is the co-owner of Station RBNY, a mainstay of the surf scene out in the Rockaways — and one of the businesses that help provide the non-profit, the Laru Beya Collective, with surfboards for their students.

Station RBNY is dedicated to surfing, skateboarding, and the Rockaway beach community — and that last one is key.

“Connecting to our customers and listening to what they have to say is important to us. Paying attention to the pulse of this changing community is important to us, and carrying the right product is important to us. Good vibes always."

There’s a lot of mutual respect and support between Station RBNY and Laru Beya; Nigel’s business partner, Bryant Law, is the one who first put the Laru Beya team in touch with Surfrider.

Originally from Barbados, Nigel started surfing in the Rockaways in the early 90s — and with a combined 25+ years of surf and skate experience, the team at Station RBNY seriously delivers on both product and know-how.

At the end of the day, though, it all comes back to community and connection. It’s a sentiment that everyone we spoke to in the Rockaways shared: a collective awareness of and responsibility for their space, its history, and the people who live there today.
