What Exactly Is a “Sweater Shirt”?
Here’s the thing—Legend isn’t technically a flannel. Most flannels are woven, which gives them structure but not much give. Legend is knit, meaning the yarn loops create built-in stretch and softness. Then we brush it for that flannel-like texture, so it has the best of both worlds: the cozy feel of a sweater with the tailored shape of a shirt.

A Short History of Flannel And How Legend Redefined It
Before we get too far, let’s rewind.
Flannel’s roots trace back to 17th-century Wales, where wool was woven and brushed for softness to withstand damp weather. It evolved into a workwear staple through the Industrial Revolution, crossing into American factories, forests and finally fashion. From lumberjacks to grunge icons, flannel became shorthand for rugged comfort.
But traditional flannels, even today, take time to soften and can feel stiff right off the rack. That’s where the Legend comes in. It nods to flannel’s timeless look—plaids, twills, rich heathers—but reimagines it with a knit construction that’s soft and really stretchy. No break-in period. No bulk.

Each Legend starts with a proprietary blend of REPREVE® recycled polyester LENZING™ ECOVERO™ viscose and elastane. Together, they deliver:
- Softness: brushed fibers for that cozy, lived-in feel
- Drape:viscose gives it an easy, flattering flow
- Stretch: four-way movement that recovers with every wear
- Sustainability: REPREVE® fibers are made from recycled plastic bottles; ECOVERO™ uses certified renewable wood sources

The Origin Story
Mike Faherty wanted to make a shirt that felt like your favorite sweater on day one. Something you’d throw on for work, travel, or weekends and never want to take off. It needed to have the flannel look, the sweater softness and the technical stretch of performance gear—without looking like it belonged in a gym.
So the team spent months custom-knitting the fabric until they landed on the perfect balance: softness, durability and structure that holds up wear after wear. That first batch became an instant hit, and Legend hasn’t slowed down since.
As Mike puts it: “It’s the one shirt that never ends up in the laundry pile because you’re always wearing it again.”

How to Care for It (and Keep It Legendary)
Part of what makes the Legend so durable is its knit construction, it doesn’t pill easily and keeps its shape wash after wash.
We recommend cold washing and air drying (or tumble low) to preserve the brushed finish and stretch. With a little care, it’ll stay as soft as day one, season after season.
