A Long Tradition of Quality

Craftsmanship, or artesanato, is an indelible piece of Portugal’s heritage. Mike saw it on full display when he paid a visit to Faherty’s factory in northern Portugal, an area renowned for its textile industry and the quality of its mills. In the 1920s, Portugal began to be recognized throughout Europe for its production and tailoring.

 

 

By the 1960s, the country had become synonymous with exceptional fabrics. The textiles had long been embraced by Portuguese fishermen who valued their warmth, endurance, and unbelievable softness—achieved by a labor-intensive process involving lifting up the fiber ends and brushing them to create that distinct smooth feel. Many consider it some of the best craftsmanship in the world—we sure do.
