These bold, vibrant earrings are made from naturally-harvested porcupine quills that are hand-sorted, cut, and dyed. Each one is meticulously wrapped using the quilling technique, one of the oldest traditional Native adornment art forms — the art of quilling is passed down from generation to generation, and is considered an heirloom skill.
Founded by designer Bethany Yellowtail, the Collective promotes and amplifies the work of Native American and First Nations artists, featuring handmade, heirloom-quality jewelry, textiles, and accessories created using time-honored techniques and traditional methods. This piece is made by Joe Big Mountain (Mohawk, Cree and Comanche), who strives to preserve his culture through his own contemporary style of quillwork.
